Opposite ends of the pivot nail can rest on two large sand-filled cans set on a bench or small table. Next, open two large paper clips. Slip the wider end of each paper clip through the holes at the ends of the balance beam. Ask an adult to drill three small holes in each of the pie pans, as shown in Figure 8b. If the balance beam is not level after the pans are in place, add a small piece of clay to the lighter (turned-up) side.
