Unfortunately, it is not always possible to control what your employees think, or post on their enterprise social network, but a enterprise social network can/will self-govern, acting in itself as a huge curbing system that can work to your advantage. While it may be funny for them to post something on their social profiles, most people will realise that enterprise social has a proper management and monitoring system in place and no one will want to post an inappropriate post or comment – it’s just not the done thing.
‘It’s a waste of time’
Social media networks like Facebook and Twitter are unfortunately a waste of time when personally used in the workplace. However, enterprise social is different in the fact that whilst it does increase interaction among people, those people are all part of the same workforce. Project based discussions, surveys and information are prevalent and there is no time for chitchat. With a management team in place, you will ultimately have control over what is being said, shared, posted, recommended or commented on and with that power, you can allow people to spend their time more productively on Yammer.
Exposure of Confidential Information
Confidential information should in normal cases not be revealed on a platform that is accessible to all. Therefore, before you begin to use an enterprise social network, make sure that you are aware of their security measures and that they are in compliance with what you are looking for. Furthermore, make sure that no unnecessary outsiders are allowed into the groups you create for the discussion of any sensitive project. By enforcing a rule of confidentiality and trusting the people you are working with, you can increase goodwill.
‘It will disturb people’
The main reason for collaborative projects is that people do their fair share and learn to work with each other. However, each group inevitably has a ‘leader’ who will take on everything, designate mediocre jobs to the rest and struggle with the work.
A social enterprise network is meant to increase productivity by allowing people to work collaboratively, share ideas, documents and other information regarding their projects. It will not disturb unnecessarily but in just the right manner to make people want to work with each other….. and of course help this busy ‘leader’ be more effective…
